This Myki fare calculator estimates fares for Melbourne public transport using current zone rules and daily fare caps.
How Myki fares are calculated
Myki fares are calculated based on zones travelled, fare type, and time of travel. Standard fares apply using either Myki Money or Myki Pass, with daily caps limiting the maximum amount charged.
Melbourne public transport uses three fare groupings: the Free Tram Zone, Zone 1+2, and Zone 2 only.
Fare types and zone groups
Free Tram Zone (tram only)
Travel within the Free Tram Zone is free when the entire journey stays inside the zone.
Touching on or travelling outside the zone triggers a standard Zone 1+2 fare.
Zone 1+2 (train, tram, bus)
Covers travel across inner and suburban Melbourne.
This is the most common fare group and is charged when travel enters Zone 1.
Zone 2 only
Applies to travel entirely within outer suburban areas.
Zone 2 fares are lower than Zone 1+2 fares.
Myki Money and Myki Pass
Myki Money is a pay-as-you-go balance. Fares are automatically calculated when you touch on and touch off.
Myki Pass is prepaid travel for a fixed number of consecutive days, based on selected zones.
The calculator estimates fares for both options based on zone selection and travel duration.
